CAT ON THE BLOCK: A Love Letter to Provo is a deep-dive into the personal and community work championed by artist and student, Isabella Olson–a graduating senior in the Interdisciplinary Design Studies BA.
In the five years of Happy Valley-living since attending BYU in 2019, Olson has dug her heels into the heart of community involvement. This show aims to shed light on a methodology of experimental personal branding developed by Olson by way of anonymous guerrilla sticker bombing with her arguably notorious Cat Self Portrait. Her initial efforts in 2020 during an international lull built a local energy around the image and recognition of the kitschy cat. The show will tell the long-awaited story behind the garish kitty and will feature a Cat Gallery composed of iterations contributed by friends and supporters, demonstrating the community-oriented nature built around Olson’s personal projects.
